At Newlands our school council provides a meaningful way in which pupils can voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions which impact upon them. It is an important and useful way for us to provide leadership and development opportunities for our pupils.
Our school council plays a key role in promoting the key values which make up our British Values:
The children have worked so hard this year in school council. They have been absolutely wonderful. Hardworking, responsible and excellent role models.
"I've had so much fun at school council"
"I love being part of making decisions"
"I feel like I'm able to help say what happens"
"It makes me feel important coming to school council"
In school council we looked at the rewards which children received for positive behaviour. We recognised that everyone was unhappy with the current prizes which were received termly as recognition of dojo rewards. As a council we consulted our class for their opinions and ideas during our class council session. We then took these ideas back to school council, where we discussed the ideas and came up with a list of rewards, as well as ideas about how everything could work. Our chair and vice chair then met with Mrs Castledine to feedback our ideas. Take a look at our final rewards below, which we can earn for positive behaviour every term.
