Year 3 Miss Coupe & Miss McKay

Year 3 went to John T Rice - 11th July 2024

The Year 3 children went to John T Rice to share their writing journals and perform their revolting rhymes. The Year 2 children loved them and the Year 3 children felt very proud of their work!

Literacy

The Year 3 children read the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit.' by Oliver Jeffers. They adapted the story to 'The Day the Chairs Quit.' They had to do their work on the floor or find somewhere to write as they didn't have any chairs to sit on! The Year 3 children wanted to write a letter of apology to persuade them to come back!

Year 3 Food DT

The Year 3 children designed and created their own soup and stews.

Class 1 made a chunky vegetable soup and a smooth soup.

Class 2 made a Mediterranean stew. They all tried and gave their opinion as to which one they preferred.

'The Escape Room'

Year 3 had fun and lots of challenges trying to unlock the boxes. They had to solve different riddles and clues using their maths skills.

Science

Year 3 went outside to take photographs of plants around the school. This was inspired by Joseph Banks the Botanist. This was part of their science topic about plants.

Year 3 Egyptian Day

Year 3 had a marvellous day learning about the Ancient Egyptians. They all took part in activities teaching them how they used to live.

Year 3 Science

The children investigated how far they could throw a javelin using their muscles. Whose javelin went the furthest?

Year 3 Maths

Year 3 used their addition skills to solve multi step problems. They used a McDonald's menu to work out different costs of food.

They also entered the Willy Wonka chocolate shop and used their subtraction skills to work out problems when buying bars of chocolate.

Year 3 went to Creswell Crags to deep their knowledge of the Stone Age Paleolithic Period.

We visited a paleolithic cave, made Stone Age art and took part in a Stone Age hunt. We had bison for dinner. Lots of children thought it would be fun to live during the Stone Age times!

The Year 3 trip to the Hindu Temple

Religious Education

We visited the Open Centre in Derby where we learned about the story of Diwali and then made our own Divas.

We also got to visit a Hindu temple and see the spectacular display, learning about the deities they worship and their one true god in different forms.

 Tennis

This term we are learning tennis skills as Gareth the tennis coach comes in to school to teach us each Wednesday.
