American Afternoon- Friday 15th November 2019
DT - Making American-style Cookies
For a special treat, we made American-style cookies for our parents to enjoy during our American Showcase afternoon.
History - The Mayas
In December, we had a visit from Partake Theatre Company to kick-start our topic on the Ancient Mayas. We had an amazing day: playing Pok-a-tok,looking at hieroglyphic lettering, making clay symbols and the highlight - making and drinking hot chocolate in its many forms.
RE - A visit to our local Church
Also in December, Year 5 visited All Saints Church in Clipstone - our local church. The focus of our visit was to learn more about baptism and communion, which we certainly did! The children enjoyed the interactive activities that had been prepared and which were discussed in detail once back in the classroom.
Maths - Practical learning about 3D shapes
As part of our topic on 3D shapes, the children had the chance to undertake three practical activities: identifying edges, faces and vertices, making 3D card models and making 3D models using straws. The children really enjoyed themselves and it was a fun way to embed their knowledge on 3D shapes.
