Rock Steady came into school to carry out music workshops. They also provide in-school band lessons, focusing on boosting confidence, teamwork, and musical skills through electric guitar, drums, vocals, or keyboard. An amazing 32 pupils have signed up for lessons.
Our School Choir visited Foureseasons Shopping Centre in Mansfield on Tuesday 2nd December 2025, where they sang their Christmas songs for all the shoppers to enjoy. They also had a very special guest visit them!

We have been working very hard this term to achieve the high expectations we aim for each term. We are proud to say that 81 pupils achieved 100 reads this term and 50 pupils managed 100% attendance, despite several awful illnesses in school.
Autumn 2024 Celebration Assembly

I am writing on behalf of the patients, visitors and staff at King's Mill hospital to thank you for supporting our 2025 Christmas Carol Concert Programme.
A fantastic £1462.40 was raised in total by the local schools and colleges who attended between 2nd and 23rd December 2024 inclusive. This has been an excellent boost for the Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity.
As part of our work in Citizenship, pupils visited Clipstone Hall Care Home to sing carols and make Christmas cards. Here, children are able to give back to the local community, improve their social and communication and develop confidence.
Once again, our Christmas Fair showed our strong community spirit, raising funds for our outdoor learning area. Pupils raised money by making and selling Christmas decorations, showing creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurial skills. An amazing _________________was raised.
As part of Year 3s charity work, they led an assembly for the whole school. They also organised a cake sale and raised an amazing __________________________ for their chosen charity.
Our love of reading shone through with our book fair, which was so well-supported. We also raised _________________ to buy more books for school.
As part of our R.E. and British Values learning, pupils visited a Gurdwara, a Mosque and a Synagogue. Here they developed their mutual respect and tolerance of other faiths and their knowledge of the multicultural place that they live.
Year 4 led our mental health week when we were able to show young people that they are not alone in their struggles, fostering a sense of solidarity and community support. Pupils were encouraged to talk openly and support each other.
12 children represented Newlands in the Mansfield cross-country competition. They achieved exceptionally well and 3 of them ran a fast enough time to qualify for the county championship race.
Year 6 spent 4 days at Hagg Farm. Here we really pushed ourselves out of our comfort zone by kayaking, rock climbing and caving. We built special friendships to help us through year six and coped independently without our families.
The Y5/6 girls football team reached the final of the area school's cup final. Unfortunately, they lost the match, but showed great effort, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship. They all received medals.
In order to celebrate our reading achievements, pupils were able to take part in a Readfest day with inflatables and food if they read 100 times in the term. An amazing __________________ children achieved this and had a great day.
We were delighted to facilitate some of our ex-pupils for their work experience placement. We helped to develop communication, confidence and initiative whilst providing a real-world insight into careers.
This week our year 6s sat their SATs. Their attitude was exemplary throughout the week as they showed positivity, resilience and confidence and gave it their best shot.
Another great community event kicked off with a family picnic. All pupils participated, displaying inclusivity, competitiveness and sportsmanship. Well done to all involved.
On Friday 21st March 2025, we raised £160.40 for Red Nose Day!

Newlands was awarded, for the second time, The Wellbeing Award for Schools, recognising the outstanding work being done to promote mental health and wellbeing within our school community.
The Year 6 children invited parents and carers into school on Friday 24th January to share information about the Victorians. They had tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes. They raised £102 for their nominated Oxfam charity.

Paul from Sherwood Forest Foodbank came into school on Thursday 19th December 2024 to present us with a certificate. ''A massive Thank You from Sherwood Food Bank.''

We raised £343 for the Children in Need Charity.

We received the Healthy Schools Award for the work we have completed to improve the health and wellbeing of our pupils.

Well done to both boys and girls football teams for winning their leagues! They were so proud and Mr Freeman was proud to be part of it.

Writing 85% (national 72%)
Grammar 82% (national 72%)
Maths 87% (national 73%)
Combined 80% (national 61%)
Progress was also excellent, with reading above average and writing and maths well above
average compared to other schools within the country.
