Newlands Junior School

We are Proud

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Here you will find two teachers.

Mrs Martin teaches in class 3 and Mrs Boulton teaches in class 4.

We are lucky enough to have two amazing TAs working with us too, Mrs O'Gorman and Mrs Brewer, we are also supported two days a week by Miss Thornton.

We have a very action packed year ahead of us, we will be constantly developing our skills and working on our wonderful topics.

There are three topics in year 4- Invaders and Settlers, Italy and World War 2

If you click on the links below, you will find out more about each topic.

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Children need to come to school in their PE kits on those days. Please remember that children need to wear navy blue shorts (not tight, overly short cycle shorts) and a plain white T-shirt for PE. When it gets cold, the children can wear a plain navy blue hoodie and tracksuit bottoms.

WE DO NOT HAVE LOGOS ON OUR PE KIT.

Children should try to leave ear-rings at home on PE days, as they will have to take them out or cover them up with plasters for the lessons anyway. Long hair needs to be fastened back with a bobble.

Every day your child will need to bring their reading book and diary into school with them, remember we do ask that you listen to your child read at least 5 times and sign the reading diary.

Please remember to bring a water bottle every day.

All year 4 children towards the end of the school year will be expected to sit the statutory multiplication tests, we will be spending lots of time this year practicing our times tables, children need to try and continue this practice at home as much as possible. Remember the times tables are in the back of your child's reading diary.

Homework will handed out every Friday and will be due back by the following Thursday. Spellings for the week will be stuck in reading diaries every Monday and tested on the following Friday. Any support you can give your child with their spellings, homework, reading and times table practice would be greatly appreciated. Don't forget to also practise your rapid recall.
