Year 5 Ms Elliott, Miss Redman & Mr Robinson

Year 5 visit to the Church

During our visit to the Church we learned the importance of marriage within the Christian Faith. Some children acted out a traditional Christian wedding and made commitments and promises to each other by taking vows. We discussed with the vicar the events that takes place during a Christian Church wedding.

Year 5 Outdoor Learning

We used natural resources to create collages that are inspired by nature itself. We did this by exploring different textures and forms whilst using Andy Goldsworthy as our inspiration.

Perlethorpe

The Year 5 children had lots of fun learning new skills when they went to Perlethorpe.

They took part in Orienteering in small groups. The children created collages by picking natural objects they found on the ground and produced pieces of art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. They also did a river study where they had to measure the flow of the river, measure the width and depth of the river and the cleanliness of it. A great day out!

London

We had an amazing time in London. We saw all the sites that the children had been writing about. Everyone really enjoyed going to the theatre to watch Lion King.

Year 5 Escape Room

Year 5 had an amazing morning applying their maths skills to complete a number of challenges. It was a race against time, who was going to be the fastest team?

Year 5 Partake Mayans

The Y5 children played Pok-a-Tok in the hall. They had to crush cocoa beans and make four different kinds of hot chocolate. They tasted each one and decided which one they liked the best. One had chilli in!

They ended the day looking at and handling different artefacts.

Year 5 DT

In DT Year 5 used Crumble to programme a buggy. They planned how they wanted to make the buggy move, then they learnt how to give the buggy commands. They used the Crumble software and all the children were able to programme the buggy to go forwards, backwards and turn a corner. Some even managed to design their own course and direct the buggy around it!

Year 5 Extra Curricular Activities.

Some Year 5 children went to Red Oaks Care Home to make Christmas crafts. They had a lovely time.

Christmas Crafts

We all invited our Grandparents into school to make Christmas crafts.

Year 5 Art and Design

Within art and design, we used an application to edit and manipulate an image in the style of Andy Warhol.

Y5 Trip to Mansfield Palace Theatre - Panto time!

On Friday 1st December, all Y5 went to watch Beauty and the Beast at the Palace Theatre, Mansfield (Oh no they didn't! Oh YES they did!). All the children (and adults) had an amazing time and joined in enthusiastically throughout the performance. We can't wait for next year!

Explorer Day

Simon, a real life explorer, shared all the amazing experiences he has had as well as the animals and tribes he has encountered during his many years of exploring the Amazon Rainforest. The children were particularly fascinated by his recollections of being chased by various predators! What an amazing day it was and we hope that Simon has inspired some of our Y5's to become explorers in the future!

The children each created a new species with special characteristics designed specifically for the Amazon Rainforest - they were amazing and I wouldn't want to encounter any of these!

Year 5's visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Children in Year 5 had a lovely day at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We looked at different animals and their habitats. We learnt about the different layers in the rainforest and which animals live there.

NASA Day

To enthuse the children about space, we began our learning with a NASA Day. We began the day by watching a clip of the first American moon landing in 1969. This was followed by all of the children receiving a NASA lanyard and being inaugurated as trainee astronauts. They also tasted freeze dried food, similar to that eaten by astronauts when they are in space on the International Space Station.

All children thoroughly enjoyed the day and were eager to wear their lanyards every time we furthered our space knowledge over the half term.

PE Team Building.

Year 5 used a range of different activities to promote team building skills.

Year 5's trip to the Gurdwara

Year 5 went to the Gurdwara on a cultural visit to learn about the religion of Sikhism. We tasted Asian food and looked at different artefacts

Geography

We began our learning on North America by completing an active learning collective memory lesson to name all of the 50 states in the USA.
